Do you remember my first post from a couple of weeks ago: New Beginnings? Well this week I got a notification from my ride sharing app that I had been mentioned in a post. When I loaded it the image below popped up on my screen. It’s almost an exact copy of my picture (apart from the bike)!

I had posted a link to my blog on the excellent City Cycling Edinburgh (CCE) website and one of readers there recognised me, joined my strava contacts, identified the location of my first photo then recreated the shot above. Thanks Bill!
The bridge over the canal is part of Bill’s regular commute. She regularly does the opposite ride to me, living in Edinburgh and working in Livingston.
Does anyone else recognise the location or is able to recreate?
Having a network of friends with an interest in cycling is a great help in many ways. They can be a good source of knowledge and offer help or even spare parts, as was proven to me on Mon (Totally Worn Out). They can also be a good source of encouragement, motivation and even ideas for new routes to explore. Anyone thinking of starting or increasing their mileage should seriously look to find a network of friends to offer support.
I remember a couple of years ago a virtual friend on the CCE message board was looking to do a ride from Carlisle to Edinburgh. Only thing was, he wanted to ride down to the start as well! Although I’d never met him in person I decided that it sounded like a great idea. Strangely, nobody else offered to join us…
After he rolled up to my house and made his introductions we set off and enjoyed an incredible adventure. I would never have gone that distance without the encouragement and support he gave.
Still Cold Beauty
Getting back to my 2019 commute, the second full week finished very nicely. After strong winds on Mon and Tue the rest of the week just left cold and ice to contend with. It actually made for some cracking rides though as the roads remained nice and dry. I love the sound of the salt crunching under my wheels as I make my way to work or home. My bike probably isn’t so pleased though, really need to get it washed off at the weekend. Sadly my brake froze again this morning as well (-5.4C). I’ll really need to get a new cable in there.
On my way home I stopped for a some of photos and was really pleased with a couple of the frozen canal. Eager to see what they looked like I fired up the phone only to see that Bill had had the same idea and got a snap that easily surpasses mine. Here it is below (reproduced with her approval). Thanks again Bill!
