Wow! – 2019 is officially past the half way point! It has also ended really well with a hint of summer finally arriving. Those cold dark winter mornings are a distant memory and getting geared up in just a pair of shorts and t-shirt is awesome! Finger’s crossed for more improvements in July…

June Heatflask
My commutes have followed a familiar pattern in terms of route, although I do tend to stay away from the main roads more in the summer. It’s just much more pleasant to enjoy the peace and quiet away from smelly, noisy, angry traffic. Winter time is different as the main roads are well treated so generally it’s safer to stick to them.
I’ve only had one memorable angry driver throughout the whole of June as well. He decided to shout out the passenger window at me to get off the road (something about a cycle path) even though the road was not even that busy. I caught up with him at the roundabout and he also seemed to have taken exception to my waving at him (I think he thought I was giving him an obscene gesture…)! Some people are just looking to get angry at anything.
Anyway, here is a Heatflask graphic of my riding in June:
June Stats
Statistics for the month of June are shown below. A full month with no days of holiday made were made easier with the warmer weather and prospect of summer holidays to come:
Days Commuted: 20
Distance Travelled: 716 miles
Elevation: 27,136 ft
Time: 40h 30mins
Bikes used: 2
Tuning Up
My Boardman bike has had a touch of TLC as well to tune it up for the summer. New cables were installed, as well as getting new chain, cassette, jockey wheels, headset bearings and bottom brackets fitted. These jobs were all badly needed and the bike is riding really nicely again. It cost £163 in total but was money well spent as far as I’m concerned. Check out the How Much? page to see how it stands in the commuting comparisons at the halfway point.
These tune-ups have also been done with a mind to a potential summer cycling expedition. It’s still weather dependent, but if favourable I’ll be going on an epic journey to the Outer Hebrides. I’m slightly nervous at the prospect, but extremely excited. Stay tuned for updates and hopefully a ride report with awesome pictures of a magical place!
