About

I knew from the moment my dad let go and I was riding my bike without anyone holding on that I had found my freedom. From that sweet release some 45 years ago, I have only looked back to switch lanes; I have explored this human life on wheels and from my bones to the stone I’ll return to, movement is how I fit into this world.

Gratefully!

How long have you been cycle commuting?

I suppose that since I biked to school as a kid, and then university, and now to work, I’ve been commuting my whole life. And its really always been for the same reason: because transport by gas powered vehicles is just plain old boring.

I love, LOVE, bring outside; but more, I love taking the route that goes over and between things, the one that stitches time and effort together, the one that brings you to your destination full blown and ready for whatever the day brings.

Your Commute

These days my route is approximately 10km each way (Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada). I travel in all weather, all four seasons, with the exception of maybe 2 months when the road narrows with walls of snowbanks and the ice becomes far too much a treacherous villain just longing to throw me under the bus.

What is the best thing about Cycle Commuting?

Starting every day with an adventure, arriving with my heart pounding and ready. And then emptying and bringing stillness to my head and heart before I get home.

Your bikes

Specialized Tricross
Masi Uno Riser (44/16)
Marin Pallisades (converted to singlespeed 44/18)
Specialized MTB
Minnesota Framed FATBIKE!
Cannondale Trail

Any top tips?

Use a pack so you can strip layers and carry snacks. Always take the hard way. Ride ALL the bikes.
