About
Avid soccer player when young; teacher for over 30 years; last year cycled over 15,000 km, most of it commuting, some of it commuting in a Canadian winter!
How long have you been cycle commuting?
Around 10 years. My knees and legs couldn’t handle soccer any longer. I love to be active, and care about the planet, so cycling seemed the thing.
Your Commute
If I go straight, it’s just 9-10 km to work. However, I normally leave early in the morning so I can get in 35 or 40 km before work.
Thankfully work has showers.
And it’s Canada, so the weather REALLY varies. I’ve been out in minus 20 Celsius. . . But also endured 42 degrees Celsius.
What is the best thing about Cycle Commuting?
Love the fresh air, the exercise, the time to collect my thoughts for the day
Your bikes
- Felt Verza;
- Specialized Diverge;
- Specialized Sirrus;
- Norco Indie drop;
- Bianchi . . .
I like variety! The Diverge is the only pretty high end one.
Any top tips?
Make sure your backpack is waterproofed AND you have a drysac for your laptop. I don’t mind getting wet, but electronics do.
Anything Else?
I cycled more km than I drove in each of the last 5 or so years
