About

I am a 40 year old woman, who is crazy for anything cycling related! I volunteer on the Tour de Yorkshire and for the UCI World Championships.

I spent last Christmas bike-packing from Oban to Inverness.

How long have you been cycle commuting?

About four years ago I got a job which meant I could cycle to work. I started by doing a couple of days a week, but now do all five.

Your Commute

Five days a week (snow and icy permitting at this time of year) I cycle six miles from Bingley to Ilkley in West Yorkshire.

I have about 800ft of climb each way as I go over the top of Ilkley Moor.

I start along the canal, then follow some roads and onto a quiet farm track which eventually turns into a dirt track on the moor. This then leads back onto quiet roads and into Ilkley.

What is the best thing about Cycle Commuting?

The view!!

Also, the buzz/adrenalin rush. I feel so awake when I get to work, whereas if the weather is bad and have to get the train I’m sleepy when I arrive.

Your bikes

My commute bikes are a Saracen Hack for summer and an adapted Saracen Kili mtb for winter.

I also have a Giant Defy (road) and Cube Access Pro (mtb)

Any top tips?

Invest in good kit!

Keeping warm and dry is half the battle.
