How long have you been cycle commuting?
Since May 2019, and have been doing this on and off throughout the year! I started following CycleCommute.CC on Instagram and was inspired a lot by how Iain commutes everyday over 30 mile round trip each day.
So this year that was my plan, I have failed on 2 occasions so far though – but due to matters out of my hands with work and needing the car!
Your Commute
I travel every day from Congleton to Wilmlsow in Cheshire, which is 15 miles (30 mile round trip). Fortunately the roads are mainly country lanes so are quite peaceful,. Only around 3-4 miles are on a busy main road, which is where I found most of my near misses and idiot drivers who have no patience!
What is the best thing about Cycle Commuting?
I think the best thing about cycle commuting would be passing all the traffic that has rushed past you when arriving into Wilmslow – such a great feeling!!! Also, cycling in the countryside and seeing some stunning scenery with sunrises and great sunsets along with the fresh air. Finally, getting in a couple of hours exercise each day is awesome.
Your bikes
I have a Cube SL Attain 2019 road bike with the Shimano 105 groupset – it rides beautifully.
I also have a Scott mountain bike for those winter rides when it threatens snow or ice on the country lanes!
Any top tips?
If you struggle for motivation in the morning, I would advise to pack your bag and have your clothes ready the night before so you can just get up and go. Also leave work clothes at work if possible so it saves carrying every day!
Make sure you also have puncture repair kit, spare innertube, allen keys (my seat came loose from the post during a ride so this came in handy once!
Carrying a little bit of oil (for any squeaks) and latex gloves to stop your hands from getting messy.
