There was good news on several fronts today. After being worried in my last post that there might be a trio of disappointments this week, the trend was broken. The day started nicely with a tidy tailwind blowing me in to work and the sun was poking out as I made my way to Edinburgh. I was just settling down to enjoy my Breakfast Muffin when I saw an email from one of my colleagues…

Return of the Volt

On Tue I emailed our office Bike User Group (BUG) to ask if anyone had seen my lost light (R.I.P Volt). Sadly I had no response. Then today as I was chewing my way through a bit of bacon I saw the email telling me our receptionist might have my light. Feeling good already after a nice tailwind commute and a stomach full of sausage and bacon I made my way cheerfully down to the reception desk.

Sure enough, when I got there I was handed back my trusty Cateye Volt 100. It had a couple of extra scratches on it but still worked perfectly. The receptionist herself had actually noticed it on Tue morning and taken it in to the front desk. When she spotted another cyclist entering this morning she asked if he knew who’s it was and he had seen the email from the BUG so got in touch with me.

Proudly back in place!

I put it on charge and on the commute home was reunited with my familiar blinking companion. My £8.07 light will not now need replacing and the cost won’t be added to my How Much? tracker. Every little helps I suppose! 🙂

Fresh Cake

The next bit of good news was equally welcome and was awaiting me as I reached home. It was very windy again on the route home so I was extremely hungry when I walked in. I think the smell from the biscuit factory was getting blown in my nose and making me crave my dinner even more.

When I came into the kitchen I was greeted with this splendid sight (and it smelled just as good if not better). It was a lovely, fresh out the oven, raisin and cranberry cake. It tasted every bit as good as it looks here and definitely makes up for the loss of my last baked goods (see Disappointment).

Megabus Rush

Sadly it was not all good news today though as my commute home had a bit of an unpleasant interaction with a Megabus coach. You can see it in the video below and let me know if you think it is as close as I felt it was. I don’t know why he didn’t move further over as you can see the road is quiet and there is plenty space in the second lane. Also, if he had waited until I cleared the slip road he was heading down, the delay would have been what, 10 seconds?

Not quite as bad but the little silver car following him is also too close in my opinion.

Doesn’t look too close but wide angle view of camcorder can be misleading. I’m sure if you think it was too close it was. Megabuses and Citylink buses are generally less accommodating than LRT.
